John Carroll, MHC-LP is a mental health counselor with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of New Haven. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Bard College in Written Arts. John brings a breadth of experience to his clinical practice from working with diverse, multidisciplinary teams in residential, outpatient, and individual settings utilizing such approaches as ecotherapy to foster connection and improve self-regulation.
John’s areas of focus include life transitions, identity formation, low self-esteem, academic/higher education and career stress, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and substance use. He has worked with teens struggling with substance abuse, academic challenges, and health issues. In treating substance abuse, John approaches the work on a continuum based on the client’s needs.
John’s approach is grounded in trauma informed, humanistic, existential, and person-centered modalities. His style is collaborative, supportive, and tailored to each client’s needs. He incorporates creativity, gentle challenges, and genuine curiosity into therapy, fostering self-discovery and healing.
