Ken Hollander, LP, is a psychotherapist certified in Gestalt Therapy (2018) and Imago Relationship Therapy (2021). He received his NYS Psychoanalytic license in 2019.
Ken holds an MBA from The Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University and an MA in 18th Century French Literature from the City College of New York (CCNY). He worked in the corporate world for 30+ years before training as a psychotherapist in New York City.
Ken believes that a successful therapy session means that the client has increased and enhanced their awareness of how they live in the world moment-to-moment – and has become aware of additional possibilities. Ken’s Gestalt approach works to hold the client in the present moment, often using the client’s own embodied awareness for clues as to what maybe an emergent experience. Ken uses empty chair experiments, Gestalt Dream Work technique, and other creative exercises to increase the client’s awareness of how they live in the world and what may drive their beliefs and choices.
In an Imago couple’s session, Ken works in a structured and dialogical fashion to enhance a couple’s connection through improved communication. This means deeper listening, learning how to validate our partner even when we don’t agree, and how to empathize with our partner’s experience, which may be completely alien to us. Learning to replace defensiveness with curiosity can completely shift how a couple interacts with each other and create more meaningful connection between them.
Ken specializes in anxiety, depression, life and career transitions, emergent sexual identity, and couples’ work.
